Mapping Emotional Landscapes
The major part of the terra incognita (feminine form) project involves a self-propelled journey across Britain in an attempt to map ‘mindfulness’ by embracing both ancient and modern knowledge.
It is an extension of the earth energies project, Mapping Emotional Landscapes, involving mapping St Michael's Way, the Cornish section of the Santiago route, using the chakra system (an Eastern philosophy based on meditation using the subtle energy centres of the body) to make ‘mindful’ connections with the subtle energies of the land. This is an ongoing exploration to highlight this philosophical area which is historically difficult to rationalise or quantify, and place it in a new context. A pilgrimage is after all a journey - usually away from home but in this case, a journey towards my home - in search of spiritual well-being or the quest for a personal transformation of some kind. And for me, then, it seems a natural progression to use my understanding of the healing power of nature and the environment to work with the energetic points, meridians and chakras of the earth's body, applied via vibrations of my own footsteps, hoof beats and reflective thoughts.
I will make ephemeral pieces of artwork at random moments along the way, based on things I find, things I collect, people I meet and unexpected moments that grab my attention. These gestures - both mundane and extraordinary - will be recorded via drawings, video footage, or explored using phone apps. A selection of these images and reflections will be shared on my blog, Pilgrim on Horseback, which you are invited to 'follow'. There is also a way in which you will be invited to become an intrinsic part of this journey. Details to follow. © Caro Woods 2015 |
